Wheelchair Basketball Rounds Out Its Season

RHI Turnstone went an impressive 11-3 in their final 14 games (20-12 overall) to finish nationally ranked #22 out of 53 teams and 6th in the National Invitational draw.

Heading into this season RHI and Turnstone didn't have enough athletes to field two separate varsity division (high school age) teams. To solve this issue, RHI and Turnstone merged to form one team so all interested athletes had a chance to play.

Turnstone's lone senior, Mackenzie Haag, who has competed on Turnstone teams for the last nine seasons will continue her education and wheelchair basketball career at Arizona University.

Turnstone also finished 5th out of 10 teams in the Midwest Conference

Final Game:
This game was only four points away from a huge upset versus the Synergy Jr. Bulls from Chicago. Earlier in the season, the Jr. Bulls defeated Turnstone 26-42. Heading into this game, Synergy was one of the toughest teams in the nation with a 22-6 overall record.

This game was MUCH different. RHI Turnstone put on a full-court press the entire game that was very effective. This sparked Turnstone to go up 6-0 early in the game as they led the entire first half and had a 5-point lead heading into the second half. Synergy gained their first lead with about 16 minutes in the match. The teams continued to trade the lead back and forth. With 2:07 left Kaiden Schaf sank a shot to bring Turnstone within one point (31-30). On the next two possessions, RHI Turnstone answered with the needed defensive stops with rebounds by Ashlyn Olnick. With 49.5 left, Joshua Pierce was fouled inside the paint. Pierce sank the 2nd shot to tie the game at 31. The full-court press continued to help Turnstone as Mackenzie Haag picked up a steal at half-court on the next possession that led to Turnstone taking a timeout with 41.2 seconds left. The second half ended with both teams getting opportunities to take the game but not being able to close out the game. The game went into overtime.

In OVERTIME, RHI Turnstone's full-court press continued to frustrate Chicago as Turnstone was able to force another 10-second violation and a half-court steal; however, Turnstone came up short on both turnovers. Neither team scored until 2:46 left in the game when Olnick made a deep screenshot with 5 seconds left on the shot clock for the 33-31 lead for Turnstone. Chicago answered with a tough contested transition basket to tie the game and with just over a minute left in the game the Bulls took the lead for good and finished with the 37-33 victory.

Game 3:
41-27 victory for #23 RHI Turnstone wheelchair basketball team over the #19 Kansas City Kings

Game 2:
Turnstone went head-on versus the Utah Rush who went 13-5 this season and had multiple victories over top 10 teams this season. #23 RHI Turnstone had a 25-21 lead at halftime and the game continued to be tight to the end as #18 Utah pull out a 45-51 victory.

Game 1: RHI Turnstone basketball won their first game 53-32 over the host team #26 Wichita Wildfire. After being up at half-time by 6 points the Varsity Division team dominated the second half finishing 29-14
