USA Women's Sled Hockey Development Team in Fort Wayne Feb 25-26

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Feb. 24, 2022) – At least 25 women’s sled hockey athletes and USA Hockey representatives will convene in Fort Wayne, IN, February 25-26 for a U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Training session.

Head coach Rose Misiewicz and assistant coach Hannah DeLong will work with the athletes who are training to represent the United States in international competition. USA Hockey has overseen the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team since the 2018-2019 season.

While in town, the U.S. Women’s team will also scrimmage against local favorite and nationally ranked Turnstone Flyers in a sled hockey match at the Parkview SportONE Icehouse at 8:00 am on Saturday, February 26. The Turnstone Flyers last won the National Sled Hockey Championship in 2018, placing second nationally in 2019, and are currently ranked third out of 12 in this season’s Heartland League standings. There is no entrance fee for Saturday’s exhibition match and the public is invited to attend.

ABOUT SLED HOCKEY

Sled hockey (also referred to as sledge hockey and para ice hockey) was invented in the early 1960s and was introduced at the Lillehammer 1994 Winter Games. The US won its first Paralympic medal in the sport - gold medal - at the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Games. The U.S. Men’s Olympic Sled Hockey Team is currently ranked No. 1 in the world and will be playing for their record-extending fourth consecutive and fifth overall Paralympic gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics in March 2022.
