FORT WAYNE, IN (October 18, 2018) – Turnstone will host their 2nd annual inclusive Trunk-or-Treat next Thursday, October 25. Children with all abilities are welcome to attend. Every trunk will feature an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device so that everyone can join in on the fun of trick-or-treating.

AAC is short for Augmentative Alternative Communication. The term refers to all of the methods and tools used to supplement or replace speech or writing for those with language impairments. It is designed for individuals who cannot use a traditional voice to communicate. An AAC device could be as simple as a picture exchange or as advanced as a speech generating computer. Regardless of the method or tool, AAC devices ensure that all people have the ability to express their voice.

In addition to Halloween festivities, October is also AAC Awareness Month, providing the perfect backdrop for an inclusive community event that provides AAC devices to children so they can use their voice to take part in a classic childhood activity when they may not have been able to do so before.

The inclusive Trunk-or-Treat event will be held from 5:00pm-7:00pm, October 25, in Parking Lot A at Turnstone (3320 N. Clinton St).
