TURNSTONE PROVIDES VETERAN PROGRAMS AND DISCOUNTS ON VETERANS DAY AND YEAR-ROUND

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (November 10, 2023)– Turnstone offers a variety of programs, discounts, and other resources that support local heroes and their well-being—including a free six-month Turnstone Fitness membership for qualifying veterans. At Turnstone, veterans and members of the Armed Forces can access an adaptive fitness and aquatic center, adaptive sports and recreation opportunities, counseling services, and adult day services to pursue a healthy lifestyle after injury or disability.

Veterans with an honorable discharge may be eligible for a discount or a free six-month fitness membership. In the accessible fitness and aquatic center members have access to the fitness center, a warm-water therapy pool, and a 230-meter indoor track. Personal training sessions are also available for an extra fee.

"I love what Turnstone is doing for veterans! Many veterans suffer from both physical and mental health issues related to service. It’s fantastic that veterans now have an opportunity to work on their health in a facility that offers so much more than a traditional weightlifting facility," said Josh Martin, a Turnstone client and the Veteran Outreach Program Specialist at the Fort Wayne Vet Center.

Adult Day Services (ADS) is a program designed to maximize independence for clients, foster socialization, and provide quality community-based support. Turnstone has a contract with the Veteran’s Administration that will pay for daily ADS program fees and transportation if needed for qualified veterans. Fees may also be billed through CHOICE and the Indiana Medicaid Waiver program.

In counseling, veterans can receive mental health support for a variety of situations. The counseling team provides short- and long-term support to help clients improve their overall mental health and build positive coping and communication skills.

Veterans interested in Turnstone’s adaptive sports and recreation have opportunities throughout the year to participate in camps, clinics, and competitions. These include wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, air rifle, sled hockey, cycling, archery, power soccer, goalball, and more.

“Providing support to veterans aligns with our mission to empower people with disabilities while also addressing the challenges they face in civilian life. Turnstone's programs aim to enhance their strength, social connections, and overall well-being,” said Michelle Kimpel, Director of Sports and Recreation.

Veterans with an honorable discharge looking to pursue support and socialization are encouraged to reach out to Turnstone at 260-483-2100.
