Turnstone Flyers Sled Hockey Team Prepare For National Competition After State Championship Win

FORT WAYNE, IN (April 19, 2022)—After finishing fifth in the 12-team Heartland League, the Turnstone Flyers sled hockey team become the first Indiana Sled Hockey State Champions during the inaugural State Championship competition at Perry Park Ice Arena in Indianapolis on March 26, 2022. With this big win under their belt, the Flyers are clicking on all cylinders as they gear up to conclude their season at the National Championship scheduled for April 21-24, 2022 in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Flyers ranked number 17-24 out of 44 teams. They will be playing in Tier 3, Pool B and will play anywhere from three to five games. The Flyers will be joined by three Heartland League teams (Chicago, Grand Rapids & Wooster) with which Turnstone has a combined 2-7 record this season.

The Flyers first match will be Friday, April 22, at 9:40 a.m. against Washington, D.C. Following that match, the Flyers will play the host team, Pittsburgh Penguins, at 7:35 p.m. Turnstone’s third and final pool play game will be against long-time rivals, Sled Wings, from Grand Rapids, MI, on Saturday, April 23, at 10:45 a.m. The Sled Wings has had the upper hand in both matchups this season with tight 4-3 victories. The top four teams will play Saturday at 5:40 p.m. and 6:50 p.m., respectively, with the Championship game on Sunday, April 24 at 10 a.m.
