Turnstone Center and YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne Host Summer Camp For All Abilities

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (July 7, 2023) – Turnstone Center and the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne are set to host the 4th annual All Abilities Camp on July 10-14 from 9:30 am to noon.

The camp will be located at Turnstone Center’s facility Monday through Thursday and Friday’s camp activity will be hosted at World Baseball Academy (weather permitting). This camp is open to individuals of recommended ages 8-18. Campers with and without disabilities (physical, visual, developmental, etc.) will have the opportunity to participate in sports and recreation activities.

Sports and activities that campers will experience include boccia, volleyball, table tennis, arts and crafts, cycling, basketball, Bang the Drum, Dance Collective, Hockey, and Track and Field.

“Megan has mentioned the names of several new friends she has made. Staff members and the joy of hanging out with one of her classmates made it even more fun!" said Chriss Miller, parent of a camp attendee.

The annual camp is part of a partnership between Turnstone Center and the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne aimed to increase access to adaptive and inclusive sport opportunities for all youth and adults in Fort Wayne and surrounding communities. Their collaborative efforts provide inclusive and adaptive opportunities for people with physical, intellectual, developmental, and visual disabilities to participate in activities with their peers.

For more information about the camp, contact Michelle Kimpel, Director of Sports and Rec at Turnstone, at [email protected] or Rebekah Coffey, Director of Adaptive Services at the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, at [email protected].
