Turnstone Celebrates Disability Awareness Month with “First, People: Conversations” Campaign and Video

FORT WAYNE, IN (March 02, 2022) – Hoosiers across the state will be celebrating Disability Awareness Month this March. Turnstone will join in the celebration with a campaign titled, “First, People: Conversations”, bringing new insight to the important conversations of disability and diversity through a series of videos.

“First, People: Conversations,” is an extension of Turnstone’s 2021 “First, People” campaign which included the release of a video resource that educated the community on how to use words and actions to respect and relate to people with disabilities. Turnstone’s 2022 video series will highlight important stories and perspectives of people with disabilities in the Fort Wayne community and beyond.

This year’s campaign sheds more light on community, inclusivity, and diversity as it pertains to people with disabilities. Throughout March, profiles of Turnstone-affiliated community members, Tom, Cliff, Lisa, and Tina will be posted on Turnstone’s website and social media channels. Written features will also be posted once a week on Turnstone’s blog. Each feature will highlight a different topic relevant to the community of people with disabilities. Content will also encourage people to take the first step in creating more diverse communities by listening to and respective people’s stories that are different than their own.

“First, People: Conversations,” will finish at the end of the month with a live-streamed conversation featuring John Register, a combat Army veteran, 4-time track and field all-American, 2-time Olympic trials qualifier, 2-time Paralympic Silver Medalist, and friend of Turnstone. During the live stream, questions gathered from viewers throughout the month will be answered and John will engage in a conversation about the importance of empowering people with disabilities by providing inclusive opportunities which benefit our whole community.

All of the recorded conversations and written features will be shared on Turnstone’s website, and Turnstone’s social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. You can also watch last year’s “First, People video on our website and on YouTube.
