Turnstone Athletes Attend National Sled Hockey Camp
Turnstone is proud to announce that Elliott Mohre and Cai Davis have earned a spot at the 2023 USA Hockey Select Sled Camp July 23-28, 2023, at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, New Jersey. The camp is comprised of the top sled hockey players ages 15 years and older.
For the past 17 summers, USA Hockey has conducted various Player Development Camps for young athletes from throughout the country. The goal is to attract the best players in their specific age group to the national development program. One of the primary purposes of this camp is to identify, train and educate the best athletes. The competition gives each player the opportunity to measure themselves against others their age, gain knowledge about their development and to be exposed to outstanding coaches. Through participation in this camp process, players will be exposed to some of the best hockey coaches in the country. Several past USA Sled Hockey Paralympians who won the Gold Medal in Salt Lake City in 2002, the Bronze Medal in Turin, Italy in 2006 the Gold Medal in Vancouver in 2010, the Gold Medal in Sochi in 2014, the Gold Medal in PyeongChang, South Korea in 2018 and most recently the Gold Medal in Beijing, China will serve as assistant coaches and speakers. The daily curriculum will include intense on-ice and off-ice instruction as well as game competitions.
Mohre started playing sled hockey in August 2018 with Turnstone. In his rookie season Mohre put up 11 points in 26 games. The following two shortened seasons, Mohre surged with 34 points in 32 games. Both last season and this season Mohre led the team with 55/47 points; 37/27 goals in 30/28 games respectively.
Davis also started playing sled hockey and wheelchair basketball in August 2018 with Turnstone. After his first season he transitioned to competing only in hockey where in the two shortened seasons Davis has put up 19 points in 22 games. This past season Davis was 2nd on the team with 18 goals. Overall Davis has scored 58 Goals & 30 Assists in 102 games with Turnstone.
Turnstone's sled hockey team has won 2 national championships 2014 (Boston) & 2017 (San Jose). The past 11 seasons, Turnstone has finished in the top 4 teams in their respective division at Nationals. This last season Turnstone finished runner-up in Tier 4. This is the 5th time Turnstone has finished 2nd at this marquee event: 2012 (Dallas), 2013 (Philly), 2015 (Buffalo), 2019 (Tampa Bay) and 2023 (St. Louis). This season Turnstone also won Tier 3 in the Heartland League, 2nd at the State Championships and an overall national ranking of 25th.
Elliott Mohre was also invited to join the Team USA Tryouts on July 29-30. He has a shot of making the U.S. Men's Development Sled Hockey Team. More on this at: https://teamusa.usahockey.com/mensdevsledteam.
