Team USA Men's and Women's Goalball Athletes Travel to Tokyo for Paralympic Games

FORT WAYNE, IN (August 17, 2021) – Team USA Goalball athletes began traveling to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games on Tuesday, August 17. Led by an escort from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, the USA Men’s and Women’s Goalball athletes and team were welcomed by the Fort Wayne International Airport for the first leg of their journey to Tokyo, Japan where they will compete in the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.

The Women’s Goalball Team is slated for their first 2020 Paralympic game against Brazil on Wednesday, August 25. The Men’s Goalball Team will begin their 2020 Paralympic competition on Thursday, August 26, also against Brazil.

“As the USA Men's National Goalball Team depart for the Tokyo Paralympic Games, the coaching staff feel that this team is the most prepared squad in years. I feel that every athlete will positively contribute to the overall team performance in Tokyo," Men’s Head Goalball Coach, Keith Young said.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Goalball competition begins on Aug. 25 with the medal matches taking place on Sept. 3.

The 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games take place from Aug. 24 - Sept 5, 2021, and will be broadcast on NBC, NBCSN and Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. Goalball coverage will be included in NBC’s broadcast schedule. The complete 2020 Toyko Paralympic Games TV Schedule can be found at nbcolympics.com
