National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Championships Kicks Off A Summer Of Volunteer Experiences & Sports Events

FORT WAYNE, IN (April 09, 2024) – Turnstone Center is seeking community members to become volunteers at their upcoming adaptive sporting events. Volunteers play an important role in every event. Without the help of the community, many tournaments hosted at Turnstone would not be possible.

Volunteering with Turnstone is easy, fun, flexible, and inclusive. There is no experience required for most volunteer roles and training is provided to all volunteers when needed. With the variety of events and volunteer shifts available, individuals can select a day and time that works best for their schedules. Individuals can sign up for their own shifts or coordinate group opportunities for a shared experience.

Upcoming opportunities include the following:

NWBA National Championships, April 26-28

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA), Turnstone, and Visit Fort Wayne are proud to host the 2024 Women’s and Military Division Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. The event is scheduled to be held April 26 - 28, 2024 at the Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone. This is the first time that the Nationals will be held in Indiana.

The Championships expect to see over 300 athletes and a total of nearly 800 attendees from all over the United States, coming from as far as Washington, California, Arizona, and Florida. The 2024 Women’s Division National Championship is set to be the largest women’s wheelchair basketball event in the organization's history, while 2024 also signals the second year that the NWBA will crown a National Champion in its newly founded military division. Endeavor Games, June 21-23

Turnstone Endeavor Games kicks off on June 21 and runs through June 23. Fort Wayne will welcome over 100 athletes from across the United States, many of whom will be seeking qualification for this year’s Adaptive Sports Junior Nationals. This adaptive sporting event includes competitions and clinics for 10 sports including air rifle shooting, archery, boccia, sit volleyball, swimming, tennis, track & field, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair softball. Power Soccer Nationals, June 13-16

The 2024 MK Battery Conference Cup Series will be held June 13-16 at the Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone.
