Men's USA Goalball Team Secures Tokyo 2020 Qualification at 2019 Parapan American Games

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (August 30, 2019) – The U.S. Men’s Goalball team has secured their qualification to the 2020 Paralympic Games through their performance at the 2019 Parapan American Games still underway in Lima, Peru.

The U.S. Men’s Goalball Team will travel to Tokyo next summer following their previous Paralympic Silver Medal finish at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. They will be joined by the U.S. Women’s Goalball team who earned a Bronze Medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and previously earned their Tokyo 2020 Paralympic qualification during the 2019 IBSA Goalball & Judo International Qualifier held in Fort Wayne, IN.

The Men’s Team earned their qualification after defeating Canada 6-4 in the semifinals at the 2019 Parapan American Games, maintaining their undefeated record in the tournament. The team will face Brazil in the gold-medal match on Saturday, August 31 at 6:45pm EST.

The Women’s Team continue their competition, also with an undefeated tournament record, in the semi-final game against Mexico cued up for Friday, August, 30 at 4:00pm EST.
