Local Volunteers Needed for Fort Wayne’s Largest International Event<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

FORT WAYNE, IN <\/strong>(March 28, 2019)<\/em> –<\/strong> Turnstone and the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) are proud to be hosting the 2019 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball and Judo International Qualifier this summer from June 28th<\/sup> – July 10th<\/sup> in Fort Wayne, IN. This event is one of the final opportunities for elite athletes to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in the sports of goalball and blind judo. Volunteer registration is now open for those who would like to be part of the historic competition.<\/p>\n\n

This summer’s event will be the first time it has been hosted within the United States and is expected to be the largest international event in Fort Wayne’s history. The size of this event requires over 600 volunteers in order for the 11-day event to run successfully.<\/p>\n\n

A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available including: guidance\/operational support, event planning, registration, security, team liaison, line judging, medical, technology, chaperoning, ceremonies, setup, meals, marketing, and much more! Volunteer opportunities are scheduled in 2, 4, or 8 hours shifts and can cover one or multiple days.<\/p>\n\n

The event is also perfect for groups or organizations to participate through volunteer opportunities. Group volunteer scheduling is customizable and interested parties should contact Beth Moody to coordinate appropriate shifts. <\/p>\n\n

Fort Wayne’s role as host city for the 2019 IBSA Goalball and Judo International Qualifier is a testament to the reputation the community has garnered for accessibility and hospitality. With approximately 500 athletes and 100 coaches from 40 different countries traveling to compete here in Fort Wayne, IN, Hoosier hospitality will play a large role in the experience participants walk away with. This event is an opportunity for the community to leave a positive impression on an international community.<\/p>\n\n
