Indiana Tech Track and Field: It Couldn't Be Done Without... Facility Partners

Indiana Tech Track and Field team has been a facility partner with Turnstone for six years. Over the course of these six years of training at Turnstone, Coach Doug Edgar has watched the Warriors’ team performance improve and possibilities expand for various parts of the team. Before working with Turnstone, their long jump and pole vault athletes did not have access to an indoor training facility. Turnstone was able to offer an indoor track, pole vault, and long jump for the team to use in training, which has had a major impact on their ability to train. Because of this partnership, Indiana Tech’s athletes have improved in their training progress and gained a supportive community of Turnstone clients, staff, and athletes to cheer them on.

“We were approached when the [Plassman Athletic Center] fieldhouse was being built and asked if we would use a track if it was put in,” said Doug Edgar, Indiana Tech Track and Field Head Coach. “We previously had been training at The Plex South and jumped at the opportunity for a real track.”

Along with a high-quality place to practice and compete, Turnstone also provides a supportive, welcoming environment for the Warriors to call their home facility.

In building their relationship with Turnstone, Indiana Tech Track and Field participated in an educational opportunity where athletes were able to play goalball and wheelchair basketball and engage in an informative session about being an ally to and interacting with people with disabilities in a workplace setting.

As a long-term facility partner, Indiana Tech Track and Field draws over 8,000 people to Turnstone annually. Many of those Indiana Tech visitors who would not otherwise be aware of Turnstone gain an awareness of our mission and the services provided in our building.

We couldn’t do it without facility partners like Indiana Tech Track and Field who appreciate and uplift athletes of all abilities and strive to be allies to people with disabilities.
