First, I'm Cole and I'm a Wheelchair Basketball Athlete
As a local eighth-grader, Cole has found community through his hobbies, such as reading and playing wheelchair basketball. This year he learned that community allows us to not only learn from other people, but to also learn more about ourselves. Read more about Cole below.
Q: What have you learned about the importance of community this year?
A: Now, more than ever, I’ve realized that community is important because it bonds us all together. Community allows us to share our opinions and hear others’ opinions. By hearing that others have the same ideas that we do, we can join forces and rally together.
Q: What do you think community looks like?
A: Community is found in the day to day. Activities and hobbies allow us to find community. There are all types of communities. Finding community through your interests is important.
Q: What does community mean to you?
A: Community is important to me because I get to learn more about people and myself. I can dive deeper and learn more about my interests, my opinions, and other people.
Q: What strengths do you bring to your community?
A: I am good at communicating with others. I am friendly in any community I enter. I am a team player, that’s why I enjoy coming to Turnstone to play wheelchair basketball. At school, I am a leader and try to be a good friend to everyone.
Q: How do you want to be known in the community?
A: I just want to be known as a community member, like everyone else. I don’t want to be known as anything special, but I want to be seen for my strengths.
Q: Why do you think more inclusive communities are important?
A: Inclusive communities are important so nobody feels left out and everyone is included. When people feel left out, they get sad and down on themselves.
Q: How can we make stronger, more inclusive, communities?
A: I believe we can do this by opening up more and different communities to everyone. We need to get the word out there more to promote various opportunities for community.
3rd Place finish at Nationals (Tier 4) for Turnstone's sled hockey team. Turnstone went 18-13-1 this season while finishing runner-up at both State & League Championships. The 2024 Toyota USA Hockey Sled National Championship incorporated every level of sled hockey. Over 1,080 players across 60 teams from around the country competed for national championship honors in nine different tiers, including six adult and three youth classifications.
