Over 300 Elite Athletes—Including Paralympians—To Compete In National Championships Hosted In Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (April 22, 2024)— The 2024 National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Women’s and Military Championships take place in Fort Wayne, Indiana, from April 26–28 at Turnstone’s Plassman Athletic Center. For its first showing in Indiana, the Championships expect to see over 300 athletes and a total of nearly 800 expected attendees from all over the United States.

Current and former Team USA athletes will be competing in the weekend tournament. Seven of these athletes will be heading to Paris 2024 later this year. These athletes include: four-time Paralympian, Natalie Schneider; three-time Paralympian Rebecca Murray, and 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Bronze medalists Josie Aslakson, Kaitlyn Eaton, Courtney Ryan, and Lindsey Zurbrugg, in addition to Emily Oberst.

Just a few of the Women's Division teams attending include Lakeshore, Charlotte Rollin Hornets, Arizona Storm, LWSRA, Mary Free Bed, Lady Mavericks, PNW Reign, Cleveland Cavaliers, Parasport Spokane, and Ability360. Some of the Military Division teams include LWSRA, Parasport Spokane, Wolfpack Vets, and Florida Renegades.

There are nearly 200 NWBA-sanctioned competitions annually throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Ontario, and Quebec. The NWBA season runs from October to April and culminates in the National Tournament.

Volunteers:

Turnstone and NWBA urgently need volunteers of all ages and abilities to help run score tables, man the livestream cameras, and more! No experience is necessary, and training for each role is provided onsite the day of the event. Everyone can choose their role and preferred time online and is welcome to sign up online individually or with a group.

Spectators:

Tickets for fans and spectators can be purchased at pre-sale prices online at https://one.bidpal.net/nwba2024/welcome until Tuesday, April 23, at midnight. After Tuesday, tickets will only be available for purchase onsite at Turnstone.

About the 2024 NWBA Women’s And Military National Championships
The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA), Turnstone, and Visit Fort Wayne are proud to host the 2024 Women’s and Military Division Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. The event is scheduled to be held April 26 - 28, 2024 at the Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone. This is the first time that the Nationals will be held in Indiana.

The Championships expect to see over 300 athletes and a total of nearly 800 attendees from all over the United States, coming from as far as Washington, California, Arizona, and Florida. The 2024 Women’s Division National Championship is set to be the largest women’s wheelchair basketball event in the organization's history, while 2024 also signals the second year that the NWBA will crown a National Champion in its newly founded military division.
