Turnstone offers recreational and competitive sports programming for people with disabilities throughout the year. We have launched the Butler Family Elite Athlete Scholarship Fund to help fund opportunities that support rising and elite athletes in pursuit of excellence and their Paralympic dreams.

To apply for a Turnstone Elite Athlete Scholarship, an individual must be 14 years of age or older, have a permanent physical disability, (i.e. spinal cord injury, amputation, visual impairment, traumatic brain injury, nerve/muscle damage that permanently impedes function), and train and/or be affiliated with Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities, U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Site.

Turnstone uses the International Paralympic Committee's eligibility criteria as a guideline. The athlete must also be a Citizen of the United States.

Recipients may use funds accordingly:
Grants to assist with participation and expenses associated with individual sport goals.

Sports participation expenses covered include:
- Event fees
- Event transportation and lodging
- Coaching or instruction fees
- Adaptive sports equipment

Travel/Competition Expenses:

Funds are used to pay for expenses related to sports/athletic competitions, training camps, or clinics. These expenses may include entry fees and/or travel-related expenses to competitions. Travel-related expenses can include transportation (fuel, rental car, flight, ride-share, etc.), accommodations (lodging fees), and meals for the athlete.

Applicants will be notified if their grant is approved within 14 business days of the application submission. Funds are only distributed once valid receipts or invoices and reports have been received by Turnstone.

Application Questions:

- Brief cover letter and personal biography including your involvement with sport at Turnstone Center and your requested need.
- Essay of no more than 300 words about the role and importance of sport in your life.

Other considerations for the application:

Education Level/GPA
- National and International Rankings
- Financial need
- Extracurricular activities/volunteering at Turnstone
- Prior awards from the fund

Reporting Requirements: Awards greater than $1,000:

The following is to be submitted no later than four weeks post-event/program end date:
- One-paragraph summary of program and participation outcomes
- Photo of participation in the activity (preferably while wearing Turnstone apparel)
- Provide valid expense receipts.
