LOCAL ATHLETE SIGNS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (May 10, 2023) – Turnstone Center welcomed supporters to the Plassman Athletic Center fieldhouse to celebrate Mackenzie (Kenzie) Haag’s commitment to play wheelchair basketball for The University of Arizona Wildcats. The University of Arizona (UA) boasts the largest and most inclusive collegiate adaptive sports program in the world.

“I’m excited to continue to do something I’m incredibly passionate about in an environment I’m comfortable in,” said Haag. “I know I will continue to make valuable memories that will continue to benefit me even after college.”

“Kenzie has been a Turnstone Flyer athlete for 10 years playing wheelchair basketball, and we've seen her grow and develop tremendously,” said Michelle Kimpel, Turnstone Director of Sports & Recreation. “She is a leader on and off the court; supports, challenges and encourages her teammates, and has devoted time over the years to make such progress in the game. Through her leadership, Kenzie brought fun to the team and created cohesiveness. Turnstone is proud of Kenzie and that we have been a part of her journey. It is exciting to see that her journey continues at The University of Arizona where she will excel even more.”

UA Adaptive Athletics is the most comprehensive wheelchair sports program in the United States, with 44 athletes representing the USA in the Paralympics and numerous collegiate championship titles. It offers six competitive adaptive sports teams, and graduates student-athletes each year.
