Turnstone's Veterans Program

Turnstone's Veterans program encourages veterans to increase their physical activity, improve the ability to make healthy lifestyle choices, increase opportunities for networking with other veterans and their families, and have fun. The program is offered free of charge to qualified veterans. For more information on our Veterans program or to schedule a consultation, please contact a Fitness Specialist, at (260) 483-2100.

 

Support Groups

Fort Wayne Amputee Support Group

The Fort Wayne Amputee Support Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 7-8:30 pm. at Turnstone. Join fellow amputees for support, education, inspiration, and a chance to build new friendships. Parent Support Group
Turnstone’s Parent Support Group allows the primary caregivers of children with disabilities to meet one another and share experiences. Discussion topics may include how to deal with behaviors, how to be an advocate for your child, how to navigate school system services, how to approach the challenges of raising a child with a disability, and other topics. Parent Support Group meets on the third Wednesday of every month from 6:30-8 p.m. Meetings will cancel if Fort Wayne Community Schools cancel due to weather. Childcare may be available at no charge with advance notice. To register, please contact a Pediatric Social Worker at (260) 483-2100.

Parkinson's Support Group
The Parkinson’s Support Group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. (except December). The group's goal is to provide an open and supportive atmosphere that encourages individuals and families affected by Parkinson's disease to interact and exchange information. The group also enlightens members about helpful resources within the community through educational programs by doctors and other medical professionals. Parkinson's Caregiver Support Group
The Parkinson's Caregiver Support Group meets on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Turnstone. The group provides an open and supportive atmosphere that encourages caregivers and families affected by the disease to interact and exchange information. For more information, please contact an Adult Services Case Manager at (260) 483-2100.

Turnstone also offers an exercise group for clients with Parkinson’s disease. 

 

Parkinson’s Exercise Group

Intensity Beginner–Intermediate

An instructor-led semi-seated/semi-standing exercise class that focuses on increasing physical fitness for persons with Parkinson's disease. This class features the use of equipment such as dumbbells, dowel rods, and squeeze balls. Exercises include large body movements such as squats, as well as fine motor skills. Located in Group Exercise Room #1. Fridays 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Rock Steady Boxing

Intensity: Beginner–Intermediate

Starting Nov. 1 

Rock Steady Boxing combines non-contact boxing with group fitness and focuses on building strength, power, flexibility and confidence. This class is specifically for those who are diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. It is designed to delay the symptoms that come along with Parkinson's and have fun while doing it. The mission of Rock Steady Boxing is to empower people with Parkinson’s disease to fight back. Located in the new Rock Steady Boxing group exercise room. Schedule: Monday & Wednesday 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday & Thursday 3-4:30 p.m.

Silver Sneakers Yoga

Intensity Beginner–Intermediate

Move through seated and standing yoga poses to increase flexibility, balance and range of motion. A chair is used to meet a variety of fitness levels. Located in Group Exercise Room #1. Mondays from 9-9:45 a.m.

Silver Sneakers Splash

Intensity Beginner–Intermediate

A fun, shallow-water exercise class that uses a signature splash-board to increase movement and intensity options. Splash is suitable for all skill levels and is safe for non-swimmers. The pool provides many benefits when used for aerobic exercise and resistance training. Located in the Plassman Pool. Fridays from 9-9:45 a.m. 

Silver Sneakers Classic

Intensity Beginner–Intermediate

 A well-rounded exercise class to improve participants' strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance. This class is for all levels and has both standing and chair exercises to fit each participant's needs. Located in Group Exercise Room #1. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-9:45 a.m.

Balance

Intensity Beginner–Intermediate

A class specially designed to improve your balance, coordination, and stability through a variety of static and dynamic exercises. Located in Group Exercise Room #1. Wednesdays from 9-9:30 a.m.

Aquacise

Intensity Beginner–Intermediate

Incorporating a variety of moderate impact exercises focusing on cardio, coordination, balance, endurance, and strength. Water weights and other equipment are used. Everyone can go at their own pace, but you will be sure to get to moving and grooving in this workout. Located in the Plassman Pool. Mondays from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
