Turnstone’s Fitness & Aquatics Center is the only exercise facility in northeast Indiana designed to include people with physical disabilities. The facility includes fully accessible fitness equipment, exercise programs, a 230-meter indoor track, and two warm-water therapeutic pools.  Turnstone’s certified fitness staff works with each member to create an individualized exercise plan to meet the member's fitness goals.  Turnstone's fitness staff are Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainers (CIFT) through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). 

Turnstone’s fitness and aquatics programs are for people ages 9 and up who meet Turnstone’s criteria for eligibility and obtain a physician's release before beginning the program. Common diagnoses include, but are not limited to, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, neuropathy, Parkinson's disease, spina bifida, amputation, joint replacement, arthritis, fibromyalgia, stroke, and brain injury.  Please contact us at (260) 483-2100 or complete the online contact form for more information or to learn how you can become a member.

COVID-19 Adjusted Operations

As of June 2021, Turnstone's Fitness and Aquatics Center is now open to all members. 

  • Fitness and Aquatics members are no longer required to schedule appointments to utilize the facility

  • Clients are still required to wear a face-covering when entering the building

  • Pool members are still required to bring their own towels

  • Turnstone's Track remains available for Fitness Members to use

  • Please continue to monitor your symptoms before entering Turnstone. Screenings and temperature checks will no longer be required at check-in.

Fitness Center

Turnstone's Fitness Center features fully accessible strength-training equipment, free weights, and several cardiovascular machines including Motomed machines, NuSteps, recumbent ellipticals, treadmills, and standard ellipticals.  Turnstone's field house has a 230-meter track for walking, running, and rolling laps.

Warm-water Therapeutic Pools

Turnstone’s warm-water therapeutic pools are equipped with a chair lift, wheelchair ramp, handrails, and an underwater bench with whirlpool jets. Maintained at 90 degrees, the pools offer a therapeutic environment that promotes muscle relaxation. Water buoyancy allows freedom of movement.

Fitness Center and Pool Membership Rates:

Pool only: $30 per month / $300 per year
Fitness Center only:  $30 per month / $300 per year
Both Fitness Center and Pool:  $36 per month / $360 per year
First month includes an additional $25 evaluation fee.

Personal Fitness Training 

Members may purchase personal fitness training sessions in both the warm-water pool and fitness center under the direct supervision of a Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer. Contact our fitness staff at (260) 483-2100 to schedule an appointment.

Personal Fitness Training Fees:

  • $45/1 hour
  • $23/30 minutes

OR

  • $200/5 1-hour sessions
  • $100/5 30-minute sessions

12- and 20-session packages are also available.

Open Track Program

Turnstone's six-lane indoor 230-meter track is available for running, walking, or rolling laps.  Six laps around the track equal one mile.  Access to the Fitness Center is not included with the Open Track Program. 

To participate, complete a waiver at the Plassman Athletic Center with a fitness center staff member and sign in at the main desk each time you arrive. Please contact EJ Whitney, Manager of Wellness and Adaptive Sports at ej@turnstone.org with questions about the Open Track Program.

Open Track fees:

Individuals:  $5/drop-in or $25/month includes shower and locker usage.

Businesses:  $25/employee up to $250 per month for 1-20 employees per organization includes shower and locker usage. Towels are not provided.

Fitness & Aquatics Programs

Aquacise

Intensity Beginner-Intermediate. Incorporating a variety of moderate impact exercises focusing on cardio, coordination, balance, endurance, and strength. Water weights and other equipment are used. Everyone can go at their own pace, but you will be sure to get to moving and grooving in this workout. Located in the Plassman Pool. Mondays from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Balance Class

Intensity Beginner-Intermediate. A class specially designed to improve your balance, coordination, and stability through a variety of static and dynamic exercises. Located in Group Exercise Room #1. Wednesdays from 9-9:30 a.m.

Parkinson’s Exercise Group

Intensity Beginner-Intermediate. An instructor-led semi-seated/semi-standing exercise class that focuses on increasing physical fitness for persons with Parkinson's disease. This class features the use of equipment such as dumbbells, dowel rods, and squeeze balls. Exercises include large body movements such as squats, as well as fine motor skills. Located in Group Exercise Room #1. Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Rock Steady Boxing
Rock Steady Boxing is designed to empower and improve the quality of life for individuals with Parkinson's Disease. This class incorporates a non-contact boxing-based fitness curriculum. Swim Lap Club
The Swim Lap Club is designed for children with disabilities, ages 4 and up.  Participants are divided into teams based on their skill level. For information on the current session, please contact a pediatric social worker at (260) 483-2100.

Silver & Fit
Silver and Fit is a fitness program designed specifically for older adults. You may get access to Silver and Fit as a Medicare beneficiary through many insurance companies' Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans. Please contact a fitness specialist at (260) 483-2100 for more information. 

Silver Sneakers (Classic, Yoga, and Splash)
The Silver Sneakers program is a Medicare Advantage Plan Benefit.  A Silver Sneakers membership includes the use of Turnstone's Fitness Center, Warm-water Pools, and Track. Renew Active
Beginning January 1, 2019, Renew Active™ will be available at Turnstone's Fitness Center. Renew Active is a fitness program designed to help UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members meet fitness-related goals. Youth Fitness

The Youth Fitness program is an opportunity for clients ages 5-13 to participate in group workouts created and led by a Fitness Specialist.  Classes may include sports, obstacle courses, team games, cardiovascular exercise, and introduction to strength training.
