Turnstone Hosts Wheelchair Rugby Invitational Tournament

FORT WAYNE, IN (November 14, 2018) – Eight wheelchair rugby teams will compete at the Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone for the Wheelchair Rugby Invitational tournament this weekend, November 17th & 18th. Teams from Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Texas will go head to head in the tournament sanctioned by the United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA). The public is invited to attend the tournament games with a ticket cost of $1.00 per person. Children under seven will be admitted for free.

Quad rugby is a unique sport created by athletes with a disability. It combines elements of rugby,
basketball and handball. Players compete in teams of four to carry the ball across the opposing team's goal line. Contact between wheelchairs is permitted, and is in fact an integral part of the sport as players use their chairs to block and hold opponents.

Saturday games will begin at 9 am and the last game starts at 4:30 pm. The Turnstone Flyers will play at 9 am, 12 pm, and 3 pm for their chance at landing their spot in the championship game.

Sunday games begin at 8 am with the championship game scheduled for 11:00 am.

All games will be held in the Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone, 3320 N. Clinton St., Fort Wayne.
