Lluvia - It’s My Turn to #GoForIT
March 17th, 2020
As just an infant, Lluvia’s parents began bringing her to Turnstone. Born with Spina Bifida, they wanted to provide their daughter with the therapy services she needed and deserved so she could live life to her fullest potential.
Fast forward nearly two decades, Lluvia is a middle school student where she connects with other Turnstone families. It is here that a Turnstone athlete’s mom introduces Lluvia to the world of adapted sports.
Then at 14, Lluvia became a member of Turnstone’s Varsity Wheelchair Basketball team, where she now finds community that pushes her out of her comfort zone. Playing a team sport brings Lluvia companionship and she has found support from her peers, coaches, and Turnstone Competitive Sports Coordinator, Molly.
Playing the sport through high school, Lluvia has had her teammates and Molly to challenge her confidence and push her to reach her fullest potential. Lluvia expresses gratitude for the confidante and mentor she finds in Molly.
Through this support, Lluvia finds herself confident in pursuing her dreams and accomplishing goals.
Lluvia aspires to one-day work as an Immigration Lawyer, giving back to her heritage and applying her ability to speak both English and Spanish. Currently, Lluvia attends high school and works to support herself as she works towards these goals.
In the fall, Lluvia will begin school at Indiana Tech to study Criminal Justice. As a first-generation college student, Lluvia shared, “I was really happy because I didn’t think I would get accepted.”
Not only was Lluvia accepted into Indiana Tech, but also Indiana Wesleyan University and the University of Saint Francis. Her hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed by others.
Lluvia is proud to be finishing high school and for the opportunity to pursue her dreams upon graduation. Look out, because it is Lluvia’s Turn to #GoForIT!
