Prep Flyers in Rockford Illinois December 4-6, 2009

Game 1 --- Flyers 17 Falcons 12 ---- This win didn’t come easy. Flyers started off flat and were down 10-8 to start the 4th quarter. Shots started to fall and Flyers went on a 9-2 run to close out the game. Lazero R. scored his first free throw.

Game 2 --- Flyers 16 Heat 6 --- In the second pool play game the Flyers held conference foe scoreless in the 1st half.

Game 3 --- Flyers 24 GLASA Wave 20 --- Both teams were on their A game in this Semifinal game. End of 1st Quarter Flyers were up 10-6. Teams traded baskets throughout. GLASA would close to gap to 4 points a few times but Randall basket down the middle late in the 4th quarter secured the victory. ** Team played strong for the final 3 minutes without Alex Leckron as he received medical attention with his bloody nose.

Game 4 --- Flyers 8 Rowdies 14 --- The Rowdies executed their game plan more effectively then the Flyers as they held the Flyers to mainly low percentage outside shots to win the Championship. ***The Rowdies and Flyers are very familiar with the big stage. At last year nationals the Flyers defeated the Rowdies in pool play but later lost to them in the semifinals. Courage went on to win a National Championship, while the Flyers finished 3rd last season. These two teams will not see each other again until maybe a repeat match up at Nationals again.

Prep Flyers Stats:
Randall K. – 6 steals, 12 rebounds, 3 assist, 2 points

Prep and Varsity Turnstone Flyers Schedule
Click here to see basketball tournament schedule for 2009 for both Prep and Varsity.

For nearly a decade, Turnstone has offered a wheelchair basketball program from children age 6 and older. Wheelchair basketball players are divided into two teams: prep and varsity. This division is based on age not level of skill.
Prep team is ages 8-12. Varsity is ages 13- graduation of high school.

Each team consists of players (male and female) with a variety of physical disabilities including spinal cord injuries and Spina Bifida. The teams play competitive games against other teams in the Midwest region, including Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The season runs from October through March with games and/or tournaments scheduled at least once a month. In the past, both teams have qualified and competed at the national tournaments held in Birmingham, AL; San Jose, CA; Houston,TX; Stillwater, OK; and Philadelphia, PA.

Turnstone's wheelchair basketball program is designed for children with physical disabilities who have an interest in:

Challenging social and sport activities
Improving their physical health
Meeting new friends
Experiencing the challenge of competition
Additionally, the program offers an excellent opportunity for family members (parents, siblings and spouses) to get together and network socially in a safe and accepting environment.

No experience is required. Sports chairs, equipment, uniforms, a portion of hotel fees for away games, registration fees and use of a full size gymnasium are all made available through Turnstone. Players and families are requested to participate in fundraising activities to offset program expenses.

*open gym practice every Wednesday 5:30 - 7:00 pm (except Dec 26 & if FWCS closes) all practices are at Turnstone Center for Children & Adults with Disabilities.
