All volunteers are required to fill out an application prior to volunteering.  If unable to volunteer when scheduled, volunteers should give advance notice of absence.

Please note:  Turnstone has limited internship and job shadowing opportunities for students enrolled in post-secondary education.  For more information on volunteering, interning or job shadowing at Turnstone please contact us at (260) 483-2100 or email us.

 

Current Volunteer Opportunities


Preschool/Childcare Program:
Volunteers interact with the children and staff, assist in the preparation of daily activities:  escort children to the classroom, remove coats, help prepare children for activities, gather and distribute materials; assist in classroom activities including mealtime, games, music, and free-play; share ideas and plans; assist in keeping classroom area clean and orderly; organizing, washing toys and dishes.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age
  • Limited Criminal History Check (if under age of 18 volunteer must be fingerprinted at own expense).
  • Drug Screen
  • Physical (within 3 months, or in past 12 months)
  • TB Test

 

Adult Day Services: Volunteers assist staff and adult clients during program activities, such as crafts and games, as well as at snack and lunch time.  They help keep the program area clean and orderly.

Requirements

  • Limited Criminal History Check (if under age of 18 volunteer must be fingerprinted at own expense).
  • TB Test

 

Therapy / Aquatics / Fitness: Volunteers needed to assist people with disabilties of all ages.  Volunteers help prepare for the therapy activity; wash, dry and fold laundry towels; help get out and put away equipment; clean equipment; assist clients in getting to and from the program areas.

  • Limited Criminal History Check (if under age of 18 volunteer must be fingerprinted at own expense).
  • TB Test

 

Sports and Recreation: Volunteers can assist with individual sport practices and/or tournaments.  Sports include, but are not limited to wheelchair basketball, sled hockey, power soccer, tennis and boccia.

  • TB Test

 

Special Events: Turnstone hosts a variety of fundraising events.  Volunteers can help with ticket sales, collecting items for auction, and setup/takedown of event.  Committees organize each event; contact Turnstone if you would like to help on a committee.
